We want to help make your baptism a meaningful public expression of your commitment and identification with Jesus Christ, both for you and for the Church gathered to witness it. We are asking you to write out a statement of your faith in Jesus Christ and why you want to be baptized. Consider that this is to be a public declaration of the fact that you have repented of your sin and are trusting Jesus Christ as your Savior and King. It will be helpful for you to reflect on the answers to the following questions before you write out your story:
- • What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?
- • How did you become aware of your sinfulness and your need for a Savior?
- • Why did you need Jesus to live, die, and be raised from the dead for you?
- • When did God make you aware of your need to repent of your sin and trust in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus as your only hope for forgiveness of sin, deliverance from judgment, acceptance with God, and the gift of eternal life?
- • Why do you want to be baptized?
You might include a few sentences that describe your life prior to becoming a disciple, how he revealed the good news about Jesus to you and what kind of an effect Jesus is having on your life. The pastors will review the thoughts you share and may make edits for clarity or for time considerations. We will send you a copy of the edited profession to review. It is important to us that everyone feels that they are sharing their own words and experiences, and that it is clear for those who are witnessing your baptism.
